Vol. 452 No. 1

Written Answers. - Westport (Mayo) Garda Strength.

Michael Ring

Question:

60 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice when the sergeant and two Garda personnel will be replaced in Westport, County Mayo, in view of the increase of crime in the area. [7751/95]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the deployment of the force to particular locations. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the strength at Westport station has fallen due to the retirement of a sergeant on 6 February 1995, the recent transfer on promotion of one garda and the discharge of another garda on medical grounds in March 1995. The present strength at Westport Garda Station is 20.

I understand from the Garda authorities that the divisional officer is reviewing the deployment of manpower at Westport and I will inform the Deputy of any developments.
