Vol. 454 No. 1

Written Answers. - PLC Fees Abolition.

Micheál Martin

Question:

37 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education the criteria to be used by her Department to allocate the £2 million set aside in the budget for the abolition of fees for post-leaving certificate courses; and whether colleges who do not levy fees will receive any portion of this money. [10205/95]

A survey has been undertaken on the patterns and level of charges for PLC courses throughout the country. An analysis of this survey is almost complete, and my Department will immediately, on completion, enter into discussions with relevant educational interests on the new arrangements for fee relief in 1995-96. Consequent on these discussions a general communication will be issued to all vocational education committees and schools, including the criteria to be applied.

It is not intended to cover charges by professional and other bodies for registration, examination and certification costs.
