Vol. 465 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

168 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid under the REP scheme. [9830/96]

This application is one of a number under consideration by my Department which relate to small acreages of owned land and include significant areas of leased commonage lands in areas designated as degraded under REPS, i.e. areas where overgrazing by sheep has become a serious problem.

In its consideration of these applications my Department is having detailed consultations with the REPS planning agencies involved to ensure that no genuine application is excluded, and the farming involved protects, maintains or improves the environment and the countryside. In the latter regard, it is critically important that REPS achieves an improvement in the environmental impact of farming.

Further consultation with the REPS planning agencies is taking place next week, after which the Department expects to be in contact with the applicants concerned.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

170 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a slaughter house grant will be approved for wholesale meat processing; and the reason for the delay in processing an application in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [9836/96]

The person concerned has applied for a FEOGA capital grant under EU Regulation 866/90. It is a requirement of that regulation that applications for such aid undergo a rigorous examination and assessment procedure. In this case, that procedure is now almost complete and I hope to be in a position to convey a decision on it shortly.

John Ellis

Question:

172 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will have arrangements made to have an electrification grant sanctioned in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim. [9927/96]

My Department has not received an application for grant-aid under the farm electrification grants scheme from the person concerned. I have been informed, however, that such an application has been received by the ESB. It will be dealt with promptly as soon as it is received by my Department and the applicant will be informed of the outcome.
