Vol. 470 No. 3

Written Answers. - Residential Property Tax.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

70 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance whether it is the Government's policy to remove the residential property tax. [12657/96]

The Government's Programme for Renewal indicated that the future of RPT would be considered in the context of a professional study of local government financing undertaken by the Minister for the Environment. As part of the study process a report, The Financing of Local Government in Ireland, was published by that Minister on 27 June this year. I will, as previously stated, evaluate all aspects of RPT when this study process is completed.
