Vol. 475 No. 3

Written Answers. - Luggala (Wicklow) Site Restoration.

Helen Keogh

Question:

16 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the plans, if any, he has for the restoration of the site at Luggala, County Wicklow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4679/97]

Liam Lawlor

Question:

72 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht his current position regarding the matter of Luggala interpretative centre, County Wicklow, in view of recent recommendations made to him. [4819/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 16 and 72 together.

I accepted the recommendation of the Wicklow Mountains National Park Study, published on 11 February 1997, which states that the original site proposed for the visitor centre at Luggala should be disposed of as it is too far from the road to serve as a car park only. I propose taking immediate action to implement this recommendation and I am now considering the best means of restoring the site as near as is practicable to its original condition.

This reflects the contents of an affidavit filed by my Department in respect of a notice of motion lodged in the High Court seeking to have the unauthorised structures at Luggala removed and the lands restored to their condition prior to the carrying out of the unauthorised development. This case has been adjourned to Monday, 24 February 1997.
