116 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the number of doctors, dentists and technical officers serving in the Permanent Defence Force, First Line Reserve, Slua Muirí and FCA on 30 June 1995, 30 June 1996 and to date in 1997; whether he has satisfied himself that there are adequate numbers of such professionals currently in the FCA and Slua Muirí in relation to vacancies in the 11th Field Engineers and Medical Companies, Headquarters Southern Command and Curragh Command, 3 Field Engineer Company, 1 Field Medical Company and 5 Medical Company; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The number of doctors, dentists and technical officers serving in the Permanent Defence Force, the First Line Reserve, An Slua Muirí and An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil on 30 June 1995, 30 June 1996 and at present is as follows:

At present there are vacant technical officer appointments in the FCA units specified by the Deputy. However, were suitably qualified persons to apply to join An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil to fill these appointments their applications would have every consideration.
