Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Ivor Callely

Question:

104 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the consideration, if any, he has given to greater flexibility in the retiring age of doctors from the general medical services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7911/97]

Limerick East): Under the General Medical Services Scheme, general practitioners enter a contract with the relevant health board for the provision of their services to medical card holders. The terms of the contract provide that a doctor must retire from the scheme on reaching the age of 65 years and in certain circumstances at 70 years of age. I have no plans to change the arrangements.
