Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Speed Limits.

Ivor Callely

Question:

206 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the speed limits applicable in residential areas of the city of Dublin; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that some residential areas would welcome a further reduction in such speed limits; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16968/97]

The question of speed limits generally was reviewed in the context of the Road Traffic Act, 1994. This left unchanged the built up area speed limit of 30 mph. Road authorities are however empowered under section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994 to provide appropriate traffic calming measures for the purposes of restricting the speed of vehicles on particular roads.
