Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rail Accident Inquiries.

Denis Naughten

Question:

316 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has received the report of the inquiry by Iarnród Éireann into the tragic accident which occurred on 30 September 1997 at an unmanned level crossing in Donamon, County Roscommon; if so, the conclusions and safety recommendations of this report; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1227/98]

The board of inquiry established by Iarnród Éireann to investigate this accident is expected to complete its report early next month. Iarnród Éireann will then submit the report to my Department's railway inspecting officer who will review its finding to determine whether any further safety measures should be taken by the company to minimise the risk of a similar accident occurring in the future.
