Vol. 487 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

Jack Wall

Question:

131 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will grant an additional facility for a concessionary teacher to a school (details supplied) in County Kildare in view of the urgent need for this. [3487/98]

In March 1997, the outgoing Minister for Education agreed staffing arrangements for primary schools for the 1997/98 school year with the Irish National Teachers' Organisation. These arrangements were based on the allocation of surplus posts available for redistribution from the demographic dividend for the 1997-98 school year. Accordingly, I am not in a position at present to allocate additional teacher posts to primary schools. However, I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school to which he refers will be considered in the event of additional posts becoming available for allocation.
