Vol. 487 No. 5

Written Answers - Control of Horses.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

84 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if grant aid is being considered by his Department to assist the co-ordination of the efforts of the four local authorities in Dublin in their enforcement of regulations under the Control of Horses Act, 1996. [4435/98]

Provision is included in my Department's Vote for 1998 for a sum of £2.75 million for the purpose of assisting local authorities in their implementation of the Control of Horses Act. Local authorities were advised by my Department in June 1997 of the criteria that apply in relation to assessing applications for grant assistance. Three of the four Dublin local authorities made a joint application in 1997 for grant assistance. It is open to the local authorities themselves, with reference to the aforementioned criteria, to incorporate in their applications for grant assistance such items as they consider to be relevant to implementation of the Act within their functional areas.
