Question:

209 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the discussions, if any, his Department has had with the Office of Public Works in relation to the provision of sewerage facilities for Castlerea prison, County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13069/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 208 and 209 together.

A preliminary report for the Castelrea sewerage scheme, which includes provision for Castlerea prison, has been submitted to my Department. While the Office of Public Works has made inquiries of my Department in relation to the scheme, there have not been any substantive discussions. It is understood, however, that discussions have taken place between the Office of Public Works and Roscommon County Council, the authority responsible for the planning of the scheme. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve the scheme.
