Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Reports.

Michael Ferris

Question:

317 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of reports published by his Department since July 1997; the number of these reports which have resulted in legislation; the number which are the subject of promised legislation; the number which have resulted in specific spending from his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20279/98]

Excluding annual reports of my Department and its associated offices, my Department has published nine reports on various matters since July, 1997. None of these reports has, as yet, resulted in legislation, although it is anticipated that some may. Two of these reports are the subject of promised legislation. The Deputy will appreciate that legislation which may arise from any of these reports will be announced in the usual way.

All of the reports published by my Department have had costs associated with their production, i.e., advertising, printing and distribution. To date one has resulted in the allocation of specific funding based on the implementation of one of its recommendations, i.e., the setting up of the Advisory Committee on Racism and Inter-culturalism.
