Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Hunt Museum.

Michael Noonan

Question:

370 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the reason a grant of £105,000 has not been paid to the Hunt Museum in Limerick; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23781/98]

My Department agreed to pay an annual administration grant for a five-year period to the Hunt Museum to assist it in its initial years of operations. This arrangement was conditional on the museum meeting certain conditions laid down by both my Department and Shannon Development, including the projected spending parameters for the museum. At present my Department is not satisfied that these conditions are being met and accordingly, no payment of the grant has as yet been made in 1998. However, a meeting is to be arranged shortly involving the Hunt Museum, Shannon Development and my Department to clarify the elements of a new business plan being drawn up by the museum.
