Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health Centres.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

195 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Health and Children when work will commence on a health centre and day care facilities for the elderly at Cootehill, County Cavan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11822/99]

Brendan Smith

Question:

227 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children the stage of planning for a new health care unit at Cootehill, County Cavan; if the tendering process has commenced; if not, when tenders will be sought; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11609/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 195 and 227 together.

The provision of health centres in County Cavan is a matter for the North-Eastern Health Board in the first instance.

I have been informed by the board that it has recently advertised for contractors and contractors have been shortlisted. Contract documents are now being finalised and tender documents will be sent to those contractors who have been shortlisted, in due course.

The provision of financial support from my Department for this proposed project will be considered in the context of the priority which the North-Eastern Health board attaches to it, the available capital resources and the competing demands on those resources.
