Question:

301 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will give an assurance that remuneration (details supplied) paid to staff has been declared to the Revenue Commissioners and that there is no outstanding tax liability; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1680/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 299 to 301, inclusive, together.

This is primarily a matter for the board of Iarnród Éireann. However, I have been informed by Iarnród Éireann that vouchers to the value of £2,000 were paid by the company to certain drivers in February, March and December 1999 as part of a negotiated settlement of claims by employees.

The company has assured me that the full tax liability as agreed with the Revenue Commissioners in respect of these payments has been discharged by them and that the Revenue Commissioners are satisfied that the matter has been properly dealt with and finalised.
