426 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the total number of civil servants who are currently on the transfer list to other sections of Departments outside Dublin; the locations and numbers involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1989/01]

The following schedule gives the numbers by location of civil servants currently on the transfer lists operated by this Department under general council report 782 for CPSU grades. My Department's experience of these lists is that they are not an accurate indication of current interest in a location as frequently the applicants' circumstances have changed by the time their place is reached on the list. In addition, these lists can show an exaggerated level of interest in locations as applicants usually apply for more than one location and also apply to every Department with an office at the required locations(s).

My Department can have difficulty in filling clerical posts from the transfer lists despite applications for these locations.
