193 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the EU directives relevant to his Department which are awaiting implementation; the nature of the directives; when each was passed by the Council of Ministers; the date for implementation; if the Government sought a derogation; if so, the date of such derogation; if he will meet the deadline as required; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The information sought by the Deputy is set out in the following table. No derogation was sought in the case of any of the Directives concerned.

Directive 96/43EC on the imposition of Veterinary Inspection Fees for the inspection of food producing premises, inspection of food imports and border inspection. Relates to the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources in respect of fishery products and fish processing establishments.

Details requirements for the imposition of Veterinary Inspection Fees covering, inter alia, fishery products and fish producing premises.

By 1 July 1999.

Administrative procedures to implement the Directive are being drawn up, and the associated Statutory Instrument will be introduced as a matter of urgency.

Directive 98/30/EC concerning common rules for the internal market in natural gas.

Provides, amongst other things, for access to upstream natural gas facilities.

Requirements will be addressed through amendment of the Gas (Interim Regulation) Bill, which is before the Oireachtas at present.

Directive 2000/59/EC on Port Reception Facilities for Ship-Generated Waste and Cargo Residues.

Establishes requirements as to the availability and use of port reception facilities for such waste and residues.

27 November 2000.

By 28 December 2002.

In accordance with specified deadline.

Directive 2001/53/EC amending Council Directive 96/98/EC on marine equipment.

Aims to enhance safety at sea and to prevent marine pollution through the uniform application of the relevant international instruments relating to specified equipment

In accordance with specified deadline.
