Vol. 561 No. 6

Written Answers - Roads Projects.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

121 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a grant will be approved for the strengthening of the bridge on the R555, on the Listowel to Abbeyfeale Road, at the entrance to Abbeyfeale; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5052/03]

I recently announced allocations for 2003 of €250,000 to both Kerry and Limerick County Councils under the specific improvement grants scheme for the strengthening of the bridge on the R555, on the Listowel to Abbeyfeale Road.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

122 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his Department's commitment to the further funding of the Wyckham bypass extension in order that Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council can confidently go to tender stage on the basis of the 2003 allocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5053/03]

I recently announced a non-national road allocation of €9 million for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for 2003. This is an increase of 153% on the council's 1997 outturn. The Wyckham bypass extension is among the proposals approved for funding under the EU co-financed specific improvement grants scheme for 2003. The county council was allocated €200,000 for the design stage of this project.

It will be open to the council to prioritise this project, having regard to compliance with the eligibility criteria, for funding under the 2004 EU co-financed specific improvement grants scheme when applications are sought by my Department later this year.
