312 Mr. Morgan asked the Minister for Education and Science when teachers will receive the 3.25% pay rise backdated to December 2001 which was due to be paid in May 2003; if staff at his Department have been instructed to administer this rise; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The payment of one quarter of the increase recommended by the Public Service Benchmarking Body applied with effect from 1 December 2001 was made to permanent and temporary qualified primary teachers on the 5 June 2003.
Teachers in second level schools whose salaries are paid by my Department will be paid on 12 June 2003. The payment of the increase to teachers employed by vocational education committees is a matter for the individual committee.
