637 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport his plans to introduce a credit card type driving licence; the timescale involved; when the new notification system for expired licences will be introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15868/03]
I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 506 of Tuesday, 25 March 2003 which sets out the position regarding introduction of a plastic card driving licence. The issue of licence renewal notices will be from the national driver file which is held and administered by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. Arrangements for the issue of the notices are being finalised and it is the intention that the issue of licence renewal notices will commence during the current year.
