Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Equipment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

309 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the extent to which it is intended to upgrade the technology available to the Garda in various stations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28404/03]

I am committed to ensuring that gardaí have adequate resources available to them to provide effective policing. The availability of modern information and communications technology in Garda stations is constantly under review in light of available resources and developments in relevant technologies. The level of capital provision for IT development for 2004 of €20.377 million is in line with the 2003 allocation. It represents a significant increase on the average allocation over the past three years.

The allocation for telecommunications for 2004 is €4.267 million which represents an 18% increase on the 2003 provision. It demonstrates the ongoing Government commitment to this area.

Question No. 310 answered with Question No. 117.
