This month the Oireachtas Library is exhibiting a selection from its collection of political cartoons from the late 19th century. The cartoons shed light on the complex relationship between Irish nationalism and British imperialism.

The Library has over 600 digitised cartoons from the nationalist newspapers Weekly Freeman, Weekly News and United Ireland that were held in the library of the chief secretary’s office in Dublin Castle.

The Library’s monthly display continues to be virtual while many staff continue to work from home.

To find out more, visit the digital exhibition of the documents in the display case.
