25 May 2021, 10:17

The Select Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands will discuss the 2021 Revised Estimates for Public Services – Vote 37 with the Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys at a meeting in Leinster House tomorrow, Wednesday, 26 May.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 3 at 9.30am.

Speaking before the meeting, Cathaoirleach of the Committee Denis Naughten TD said: “The Committee welcomes the Minister to consider the 2021 Further Revised Estimates for the Department of Social Protection.  It was originally estimated that the social protection spend for this year would be a significant €25.13 billion. However, this is now expected to rise further as the pandemic and the continuation of income supports set up in response to  Covid-19 continue.

“Tomorrow’s meeting is an opportunity for Committee Members to raise issues with the Minister in relation to a number of issues, including the pandemic unemployment payment and other Covid-19 schemes, Social Insurance Fund , illness, disability and carers ‘payments, employment supports and pensions.”
