25 May 2021, 09:38

The Joint Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science will continue its discussion on School Bullying and the Impact on Mental Health with representatives from Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI), the Catholic Primary Schools Management Association (CPSMA); and the Joint Managerial Body/Association of Management of Catholic Secondary Schools (JMB/AMCSS).

ETBI, CPSMA and the JMB/AMCSS at today’s meeting, 3:30 pm, Tuesday 25 May.

Today’s discussion is the fourth of a series of committee meetings that will see relevant stakeholders come before the committee through to the beginning of July.

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Cathaoirleach, Paul Kehoe TD, said: “We continue our important discussion on School Bullying and the Impact on Mental Health. Last week the Committee got some further insight into the challenges that teachers face in dealing with issues around bullying. We also heard the voice of students. This week we will meet Patron Bodies to discuss the challenges they face.”

The Cathaoirleach added, “The Committee welcomes the chance to hear from the witnesses, which should further our understanding of what is happening in schools; how we can help students, parents, teachers and the whole school community; and if there are changes we need to consider to help tackle these issues head-on.

The meeting at 3:30 pm will be broadcast from Committee Room 4 of Leinster House.

The Joint Committee on Justice has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
