Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to visit Dublin Airport for a meeting with DAA and to tour the Airport on Monday 4th April

1 Apr 2022, 13:18

The visit on Monday, led by the Cathaoirleach, Deputy Kieran O’Donnell, TD, will include a number of matters relating to the airport and its operations. However, the particular focus of the Committee at this time will be on the recent substantial time-delays experienced by out-going passengers getting through security checks and some even missing their flights.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kieran O’Donnell said: “The Committee is looking forward to meeting at Dublin Airport with DAA management to discuss a range of matters. Particularly, we will be focusing on the recent substantial time-delays experienced by out-going passengers getting through security checks, which has unacceptably resulted in some even missing their flights.

“We sought an immediate update on this passenger delay crisis at security in Dublin Airport from the DAA early last week and will be following up on the matters raised in the response we received, which has been published on our committee’s website: Letter from DAA.

“We will be asking questions of DAA management as to why these security related passenger delay problems were not foreseen and planned for earlier. Furthermore, the Committee will be seeking an update on the effectiveness of the short-term alleviation measures already implemented to date and a detailed outline of the further measures they plan to introduce to ensure these severe passenger delay difficulties are resolved quickly.

“As we enter the busy season for flights, we must ensure that passengers do not continue to encounter these security delays at Dublin Airport.

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
