Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to discuss issues impacting the Taxi Industry

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 14th September, to commence their discussion on issues impacting the Taxi Industry at 1:30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House, starting with Representatives from the Taxi Industry and following on next Wednesday, 21st September, when the Committee will hear from Representatives from the National Transport Authority (NTA), in its role as Taxi Regulator. 

On this coming Wednesday, the committee will hear from representatives from:

·       National Private Hire Taxi Association (NPHTA)

·       Taxi Alliance of Ireland 

·       Tiománaí Tacsaí na hÉireann (TTNH)

·       Irish Taxi Drivers Federation (ITDF)

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kieran O’Donnell TD said: “With the return of the Oireachtas, the Committee looks forward to hearing from the stakeholders involved in this important sector. We hope to gain valuable insights on various aspects of the industry including the 12% fare increase and cashless payments mandate under the National Maximum Taxi Fare and the Small Public Service Vehicle (Cashless Payment Facility) Regulations which came into operation on 1st September, the impact of rising fuel costs and the continuing fallout from the pandemic”.

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
