Joint Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth to meet for engagement with students from Carlow Educate Together regarding “Young people and our built environment”

13 Dec 2022, 13:06

The Joint Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth will meet for engagement with students from Carlow Educate Together regarding “Young people and our built environment” today, Tuesday, 13 December.

The meeting will be broadcast from Committee Room 4 at 3pm and the discussion will hear from Mr Mark O’Brien, teacher and students from Carlow Educate Together.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kathleen Funchion TD said “Our Committee is very pleased to welcome the teachers and students from the Carlow Educate Together school to our meeting tomorrow. The students undertook a very important research project to collect data and information on what elements of Carlow town and built environment worked well for our children and teenagers. They have gathered information from walking and cycling tours of the town's streets and parks and they have looked at how accessible it was to get around as a young person. They looked at our shared public spaces and at our streetscape and built environment.

The Committee look forward to hearing their results and what the students think could be implemented to achieve better results for both themselves and the wider community.”
