Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to meet for discussions on the Transport Sectoral Emissions Ceiling resumed and separately on the Standard Instrument Departures in use at Dublin Airport

17 May 2023, 11:00

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet today, Wednesday 17 May 2023 for discussions on the Transport Sectoral Emissions Ceiling with Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan and then separately on the Standard Instrument Departures in use at Dublin Airport with representatives from the Irish Aviation Authority in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Leas-Chathaoirleach Senator Gerry Horkan said “our first meeting today with Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD allows us to resume our discussion on the Transport Sectoral Emissions Ceiling after last month’s engagement with the Climate Change Advisory Council. We look forward to getting the perspectives from the Minister on how he feels the Department of Transport and Government are supporting the Transport Sector in order to reach these emission targets.

Then our second meeting with the Irish Aviation Authority will give our Committee the opportunity to get in-depth information on the Standard Instrument Departures used at Dublin Airport. These consist of information such as direction to fly, minimum climb or descent gradients for the aircraft, minimum or maximum speeds to fly, relevant navigational points at airports. We will discuss the wider issues of the Standard Instrument Departures and the recent opening of the second runway at Dublin Airport.”

The meeting in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications  has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
