12 Jun 2023, 16:03

The Joint Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth chaired by Deputy Kathleen Funchion TD will meet tomorrow, Tuesday 13th June to discuss challenges facing women accessing education, leadership and political roles.

The meeting will be broadcast from Committee Room 4 at 3pm and the Committee will hear from:

·       Ms Rachel Coyle, Head of Campaigns and Mobilisation, The National Women’s Council

·       Ms Ciara McHugh, Leadership Officer, The National Women’s Council

·       Ms Miriam Holt, Chief Executive Officer, Women’s Collective Ireland

·       Ms Vivienne Glanville, National Programme Coordinator, Women’s Collective Ireland

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kathleen Funchion TD said “our discussion tomorrow on access challenges and issues facing women is a welcome opportunity for this Committee. We very much look forward to getting first-hand insights from the National Women’s Council and Women’s Collective Ireland on the factors that impact women and pose as barriers when it comes to accessing education, leadership and political roles in Ireland.

With 36 women TDs out of a possible 160 currently in the Oireachtas, we must continue to encourage female inclusion and participation in political life. It is imperative that all women can look to Leinster House to see that the female representation is evident.”
