Joint Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth to discuss challenges facing refugee and migrant children in Ireland

The meeting will be broadcast from Committee Room 4 at 3pm and the discussion will hear from:

·       Ms Lorna Kavanagh, Area Manager, National Services and Integration, Tusla.

·       Ms Sharon Mpufo, Wicklow Coordinator, Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI)

·       Ms Vepuu Tjazerua, Dublin 8 Coordinator, Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI)

·       Dr Fiona O’Reilly, Chief Executive Officer, Safetynet Primary Care.

·       Dr Alva O’Dalaigh, Migrant Health GP, Safetynet Primary Care.

·       Dr Aoibhinn Walsh, Consultant Paediatrician with special interest in Inclusion Health

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kathleen Funchion TD said “the meeting tomorrow follows on from recent discussions this Committee has had on Integration and Refugee issues with the stakeholders who provide the services for successful integration.

We will look to get first-hand insights on the challenges impacting refugee and migrant children who are the most vulnerable when they first come to Ireland to integrate into our society. Our Committee continues to demonstrate its support for all refugees coming to our country from across the world. Ireland has continued to welcome refugees and migrants and remains ready to provide all the support and necessary resources for people looking for safety in Ireland.”
