The Joint Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands will meet on Wednesday April 10th between 10:30am-12:30 in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House to discuss the impact of means testing on the State pension and other social welfare schemes.

Representatives from ALONE, Irish Senior Citizens Parliament, Age Action Ireland and will appear at the Committee.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Denis Naughten said: “This is the first in a series of meetings we will have on the topic of means testing and social welfare payments.”

“Means testing that often prevents older people from accessing vital supports they are entitled to, the complexity and inaccessibility of the social welfare system and the lack of communication around and the changing means thresholds for social welfare supports are among the issues we expect to discuss with representatives tomorrow.”
