Vol. 28 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Activities of the Shannon Board.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if arrangements exist whereby information can be given in connection with the activities and operations of the Shannon Board.

Under Section 7 of the Electricity Supply Act, 1927, accounts of the Electricity Supply Board will be published and put on sale, and under Section 32 of that Act a copy of an Annual Report made by the Board, of its accounts and balance-sheet and of the auditor's report thereon, together with any relevant statistics and returns, will be laid before each House of the Oireachtas.

The Parliamentary Secretary has referred to accounts, although I have not referred in my question to matters of accounts, but to activities and operations. I would like to know if the Parliamentary Secretary would give some answer to that.

The activities and operations should be well known to the Deputy, as he sees them going on.

I do not think that that is an answer that should be given. I distinctly asked whether the Minister was prepared to give facilities to Deputies to obtain particulars of certain operations. The answer we got was about accounts, and now the Parliamentary Secretary tells us that we can see the activities of the Shannon Board for ourselves. It is a question of the policy of the Board.

If it is a question about the policy of the Shannon Board, it can be discussed in the House.
