Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Leix Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state (1) the total acreage of land acquired by the Commissioners from the Earl of Portarlington, Emo Park, Leix, and the price paid for same; (2) the number of acres set aside for division amongst uneconomic holders and landless men; (3) the number of acres to go with the mansion and the price, if any, fixed for house and land; (4) the number of acres set aside for afforestation purposes and the price, if any, fixed for same, and also when these lands will be handed over to the Forestry Department; and (5) the total amount allocated from the Improvement Vote for fencing, roadmaking and drainage work on this estate.

(1) The area of the untenanted lands acquired by the Land Commission on this estate was 2,305 acres, and the price paid to the vendor was £10,000 in 4½ per cent. Land Bonds; (2) the number of acres set aside for division is 642 acres; (3) The number of acres to go with the mansion house is, including the lake, 186 acres, and the price, £2,400; (4) the number of acres set aside for afforestation purposes to be sold to the Minister for Agriculture is 1,477 acres and the price £5,000. It is not possible to state a definite date on which these lands will be handed over; (5) the amount allocated for expenditure on improvements in respect of fencing and roadmaking on this estate is £2,307.
