Vol. 35 No. 10

Written Answers. - Reclamation Schemes in Donegal.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state whether the Land Commission proposes to undertake in other districts in Co. Donegal any schemes of reclamation similar to that successfully carried out on the Rose O'Donnell Estate; and if he will give particulars of such schemes as have recently been sanctioned or are contemplated during the course of the present financial year.

Further reclamation proceedings in County Donegal during the present year will be mainly in the nature of small demonstration plots on which a variety of crops will be cultivated with a view to encouraging individual effort towards reclamation on the part of local occupiers of suitable land. Demonstration reclamation plots of about three acres each are being established on the Hill Estate, the Harper-Nixon Estate, the Peebles and Knox Estate, and the Conyngham (Rosses) Estate, all situate in the north-west area of County Donegal, which it is hoped will encourage the reclamation by the holders themselves of areas of undeveloped land in the neighbourhood.
