Vol. 37 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widows' and Orphans' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is the intention of the Government to introduce proposals for legislation to provide pensions for widows and orphans; and, if so, when it is intended that such proposals will be introduced.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies to similar questions on this subject. The investigation of this matter has not yet been completed and it has, therefore, not been possible for the Executive Council to arrive at a decision.

Is the Minister aware that a period of two years and three months has elapsed since the motion in connection with the widows' and orphans' pensions was before the Dáil, and is he further aware that on five separate occasions he has given practically the same answer as he gave to-day?

Yes, I think that is correct.

Can the Minister say when he will be prepared to give the House some information in regard to the matter?

I think that if the inquiry is repeated at regular intervals it may probably result in getting the desired information.

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the Minister's reply, I beg to give notice that I will raise this matter on the adjournment.
