Vol. 37 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief Schemes Vote.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he has received an application from the Buncrana Urban District Council (County Donegal), for a grant out of moneys provided by the Relief Schemes Vote for the purpose of providing employment in Buncrana area; and, if so, whether he will state what decision he has arrived at in regard to the application, and the total amount which he intends to allocate to this district.

An application for a grant out of moneys provided by the Relief Schemes Vote has not been received from the Buncrana Urban District Council.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he will state the total amount which he intends to allocate to each of the districts of Ballyshannon and Bundoran (County Donegal), out of the moneys provided by the Relief Schemes Vote in order to give much-needed employment in those districts; and whether, in view of the fact that the Town Commissioners and Urban District Council in those areas have been dissolved, he will impress upon the Commissioner whom he has appointed the urgent necessity for undertaking works which will provide employment in those districts.

A grant of £170 has been allocated to the Donegal Board of Health and Public Assistance towards the carrying out of certain sewerage works in Ballyshannon. £350 has been allocated for works in Bundoran Urban District.

Would the Minister mind answering the latter part of the question with regard to the Commissioner?

I have no function in the matter.

Is not the Commissioner functioning under his Department?

No, he is functioning as a local authority.

Will the Minister take the matter up with the Commissioner acting as the local authority and impress upon him the need for undertaking these works to relieve unemployment?

I do not interfere in any way with the responsibility and authority which lie with the Commissioner.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that there is a large amount of unemployment in the Letterkenny (County Donegal) area; and whether he will state the sum which he intends to allocate to the Letterkenny Urban District Council out of moneys provided by the Relief Schemes Vote for the purpose of providing employment in this area.

I have not received any representations in the matter.
