Vol. 38 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Application for Allotment.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he has received an application from John Snee, of Cloonkeavy, Ballymote, for an allotment of the Trustee Farm at Oldrock, Co. Sligo; and, if so, whether the Land Commission will provide him with a suitable portion of this farm.

A scheme has been prepared for the allotment of the entire "Committee" lands, known as the Oldrock farm, which have been offered for sale to the Land Commission, to thirteen selected allottees, among whom John Snee does not appear. There are no other lands on this estate available for distribution.

Is the Minister aware that John Snee is a married man with a family of six children, that he has been living on this farm for the past ten years, that he paid a deposit of £50 for the purchase of the land to Canon Quinn, and that these facts were put before the Land Commission on behalf of John Snee at the time his application was made?

I was not aware of these facts, but in the document supplied to me it is stated that no application for an allotment can be traced from John Snee.

Is the Minister aware that Patrick Henry, an unmarried man, a casual labourer, and an ex-member of the Free State Army, was brought in from a neighbouring parish and given an allotment on this trustee farm to the exclusion of applicants like John Snee?

I have already stated that no application for an allotment can be traced to John Snee.

I am positive that I personally communicated with the Land Commission on behalf of this applicant and that I received an acknowledgment from the Land Commission. In view of these facts, will the Minister be prepared to provide this applicant with a suitable farm on other lands in the parish of Bunninadden that are about to be sub-divided by the Land Commission?

I can put the matter before the Commissioners for consideration.
