Vol. 38 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing in Ballyshannon.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he has made any representations to the Commissioner who is administering the affairs of the Ballyshannon Town Commissioners in connection with the conversion of the Rock Barracks, Ballyshannon, into dwelling-houses; and, if so, whether he will state the nature of such representations.

The question of the desirability of acquiring these barracks for housing purposes is at present under discussion with the Commissioner.

In view of the great shortage of working-class houses in Ballyshannon, will the Minister endeavour to expedite any negotiations which are going on, with a view to the Commissioner acquiring these barracks and converting them into working-class houses?

In view of the fact that the matter was under discussion by the Town Commissioners themselves from 1925, the Commissioner is not losing very much time.

In view of the fact that the Ballyshannon Commissioners have been dissolved by an order of the Minister's Department, and that there is a Commissioner there at the present time, and that the responsibility devolves on the Minister——

—will he see that steps are taken to have these buildings converted into working-class houses as soon as possible?

The responsibility is the Commissioner's.
