Vol. 42 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Saturday Fishing on Kerry Coast.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware that since 1927 the bye-law prohibiting fishing on Saturdays along the coast of Cromane, Co. Kerry, has not been made operative; that on Saturday, the 21st May, 1932, the Gárda Síochána visited the district and captured portion of fishing gear, and if, in view of the hardship which will be caused to the fishermen in the area by the putting into operation of this bye-law he will take steps to have an inquiry held, with a view to repealing the said bye-law, and, if so, if he can state when the inquiry will be held.

The close season for the taking of salmon between 6 a.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. on Monday is fixed by Statute and not by bye-law, and could only be altered by amending legislation.
