asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the number of part-time officers of the manipulative grades in the Post Office whose combined weekly wages do not exceed (a) 20/- and (b) 25/- per week.

The required information is as follows:—(a) number with wages of less than 20/- a week, 2158; (b) number with wages between 20/1 and 25/- a week, 901.

The persons in receipt of low wages are mostly part-time Postmen (Auxiliary Postmen and Allowance Deliverers) who give only part of their time to the Department and are expected to supplement their earnings by outside employment. The figures are:—

In the few cases in which women are employed on delivery, etc., work, the rate of pay is slightly lower.

Will the Minister state the number of hours worked by these part-time officers on the average?
