Vol. 56 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants of Stock on Divided Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that James Farrelly, Patrick Farrelly, Joseph Murray and Thomas Lynch, four former workmen on the recently divided Rathcarna estate, who, together with the migrants from the West of Ireland, were given holdings on the estate, have not received the same free grants of stock, poultry, implements, fuel and weekly payments as were given to the migrants; and if he is aware that this is a serious handicap and a source of discouragement to these men in making a success of their holdings, and if he will state if it is his intention to give this same additional assistance to these four men, and, if not, if he will state the reason for not doing so.

The grants given to the migrants to Rathcarran, County Meath, from the Connemara Gaeltacht, whose holdings are being taken up for division amongst their congested neighbours, are not applicable to ordinary allottees of parcels of untenanted land. The four persons mentioned are receiving housing assistance, and it is not intended to make them any other grants.
