Vol. 62 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Volunteer Force.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the grounds on which Corporal James Maloney, of Roscrea (No. 101,316), was not permitted to do the cadet course of the Volunteer force, particularly as he obtained first place in the final examination out of 50 Volunteers in 1934.

There is no such course in the Volunteer force as a cadet course. There are potential non-commissioned officers' and potential officers' courses. Ex-Volunteer James Maloney was permitted to undergo the potential non-commissioned officers' course held from the 1st May to the 13th August, 1934, and at the examination held on the conclusion of that course he obtained 19th place. He was not permitted to undergo a potential officers' course as he was not considered suitable.
