Vol. 65 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division and Allotment of Land (West Cork).

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the acreage of land actually divided and allotted in West Cork during the year 1936; of the land so allotted, how many of the allottees were (1) evicted tenants or their successors, (2) landless men not previously in occupation of land; (b) the acreage of land acquired but not yet allotted, and (c) the acreage of land inspected and approved of for division, but not yet actually acquired.

Mr. Boland

The statistics of the Land Commission are recorded by counties and particulars of operations in sub-county divisions are not available. For the whole of County Cork the area of untenanted land divided during the calendar year 1936 was 3,091 acres, disposed of to 143 allottees. Included in the number of allottees were three evicted tenants or their successors, 25 labourers who had been deprived of their employment by reason of the sale of the lands; and 31 land less men or persons coming within the provisions of Section 31 (f) of the Land Act, 1923. The area of untenanted land in County Cork acquired under the Land Acts, 1923-36, but not yet divided at the 31st January, 1937 (the latest date to which the statistics have been made up) was 725 acres. At the 31st January, 1937, the area of untenanted land in County Cork approved of for acquisition after inspection was 5,889 acres.
