Vol. 80 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price-Control of Wool.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware of uneasiness among sheep owners and wool buyers as to the possibility of the creation of a favoured monopoly for the purchase and export of Irish wool; and if he will take steps to ensure that before price control is effected the interests of the wool producers will be safeguarded.

In connection with proposals for the disposal of our exportable surplus of wool of the 1940 clip, which my Department has under discussion, every care is being taken to ensure that the fullest consideration is given to every interest concerned.

Mr. Brennan

Will the Minister make any statement with regard to the position? Many people who own small packages of wool must get rid of it to pay their bills. By this means, they are enabled, too, to make purchases at this time of year. Could the Minister give some indication as to the price they may expect for their wool?

I cannot answer the Deputy's supplementary question in any definite manner. It is hoped that the negotiations regarding the price to be obtained for our wool will be completed in the near future.

Mr. Brennan

I hope the Minister will keep in mind that the point I raised is of very great importance to small farmers.
