Vol. 82 No. 2

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Houses—Contractors' Grievances.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that contractors building tenant houses for the Land Commission have suffered financial inconvenience as a result of his Department failing to arrive at some decision as regards the method of procedure to deal with quantitative payments on account under a war clause, and, if no decision has yet been made, will he have the matter expedited with a view to having payments issued to these contractors immediately.

The method of determining amounts payable to Land Commission contractors in respect of the war clause incorporated in the contract documents is at present under consideration, and the matter will be expedited as much as possible.

Is the Minister aware that small contractors with very little capital are suffering great inconvenience as the result of this question not being determined, and will he expedite the matter?

The matter is being expedited.

It is quite a long time under consideration—some months. I am sure the Minister is aware of that.

If the Deputy is aware of any urgent case where hardship is imposed upon a contractor by reason of the delay, I should be glad if he would communicate with me, because in such a case we may be able to make a payment on account.

I will be pleased to let the Minister know.
