Vol. 82 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Children's Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the position with reference to the extension of the children's hospitals in Dublin; when the Children's Hospital, in Temple Street; when the National Children's Hospital, Harcourt Street, and the St. Ultan's Hospital, Charlemont Street, will be enlarged and provided with extra beds; if any plans have been submitted from either of the three hospitals named and the dates of their submission to the Government; further, if he will state what is the position with reference to the hospital site at Crumlin, presented by His Grace the late Archbishop of Dublin.

The three hospitals in question have already been enlarged. The bed accommodation has been increased from 166 beds in 1929 to 271 beds in 1941. The only proposal for further extensions of these hospitals was received from Teach Ultain in June, 1939, and it has been deferred. As regards the concluding portion of the question, I understand that the planning of the hospital is being proceeded with.
