Vol. 86 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Conference of Turf Workers.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware of the general dissatisfaction that exists amongst turf workers because of the low rates of wages offered by county surveyors for all kinds of work associated with the turf-winning campaign, and whether in view of the urgent need of mobilising as rapidly as possible all the available resources in man power for the successful prosecution of the national drive for fuel, he will take steps immediately to convene a national conference of representatives of the turf workers with a view to fixing agreed rates of wages for all operations associated with the campaign.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a similar question by Deputy Everett on the 16th April and to the statement made by me on the general question of wages for turf workers on the same date and occasion.
