Vol. 86 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Occupation of Lands.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that several applications have been made by Mr. Henry Kellett, in respect of compensation for occupation of the lands of Killinkere, Glebe, County Cavan, by the military last August, and if he will state the position as regards these applications.

Mr. Henry Kellett, Carricknaveagh, County Cavan, has submitted a claim for compensation in respect of the occupation of lands of which he holds the grazing rights. The lands in question comprised approximately 8½ acres and were occupied as a bivouac area for the period from the 1st to 7th August, 1941. I hope to have the claim disposed of in the near future.

Will the Minister say what he means by "in the near future"? This man has been deprived of the use of his land for the season; practically nine months have passed, and surely something should have been done in the meantime in the matter of compensation.

I mean, as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that several applications have been made in respect of compensation for damage done by the Irish-speaking battalion of the National Army on the lands of the Webb estate, Moydriston, known as "Summerville", when encamped there last July, and if he will state the position as regards these applications.

Mr. Percival L. Webb, Moydriston, Mount Nugent, County Cavan, has claimed compensation for occupation and damage to lands alleged to have been caused during military occupation in June and July, 1941. The claim is at present under investigation.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that several applications have been made in respect of compensation for damage done by the military when encamped at Killegar on the Kilbracken estate last summer, and if he will state the position as regards these applications.

A claim has been submitted to my Department on behalf of Lord Kilbracken, Killegar estate, County Cavan, for compensation in respect of (a) the occupation of lands by troops at Killegar, the property of Lord Kilbracken, in July, 1941, and (b) damage to roads within the estate, damage to gate pier and loss of meadow, which occurred during the period of occupation. I hope to have the claim disposed of in the near future.
