Vol. 86 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disablement of L.D.F. Member.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Francis O'Neill, College Street, Cavan, a member of the L.D.F., is suffering from a broken thigh bone as the result of an accident on 31st August, 1941, while acting as assistant section leader, and is unable to work, and is not receiving any compensation to support his wife and five children, and if he will see that he is made a reasonable allowance during his disablement.

I am aware of the injuries received by Mr. O'Neill. It is anticipated that a scheme for compensation for injuries contracted by members of the L.D.F. on duty will shortly be prepared. In the meantime it is hoped to deal with the case of Mr. O'Neill on an interim basis, with the least possible delay. I may mention that Mr. O'Neill has been afforded treatment and has been supplied with surgical appliances by the Army medical authorities.

What does the man do about his wages in the meantime? Will no compensation be given to him in that respect?
